Welcome to the Midwest!

The Midwest Chapter is the noisy, busy and energetic Chapter that covers the heartland of America. We are an active Chapter with 15 Board members, regular educational and informative events for members and guests in Chicago, Minneapolis and Columbus and mentoring programs at the local colleges. Our event programs are designed for the enjoyment, enlightenment and networking opportunities for our members who come from a diverse range of educational backgrounds and work experiences.

July 26th Tour, "What's Inside?", Newberry Library, Chicago
As part of our continuing program to discover Chicago's hidden research treasures take this guided tour of the Newberry Library collections and peruse the offerings at their annual book fair. The tour will include a talk with John Powell, who handles their research requests, permissions, and digitizing projects. The collection includes untapped resources and ephemera such as illuminated medieval manuscripts, world maps, historical sheet music and a plethora of historic engravings.
Tour to be followed by a casual lunch/coffee gathering, location TBD.

September 11th Panel Discussion, "New Challenges for the Picture Professional" - Chicago
If any one with an Internet connection can locate an image, download it and upload it in an easy series of mouse clicks, is this the end of the photographic professional? This day-long event offers the opportunity to rethink the future of how people who need content interact with those people who have content. More info to come.

May 22nd Portfolio Review - Chicago, IL

Reviewers were on hand from McDonalds Corporation, Quarasan, Panoramic Images, Rand McNally, StockAnswers and others to help photographers polish up their portfolios. Snacks and refreshments were provided by the evening’s sponsor, Pearson Publishing.

A lively discussion of "Stock agency Submissions" was held with guest speaker Aeri Wittenbourgh from Corbis.

ASMP sponsors "PDN On The Road" was a two day seminar at Peggy Notebart Nature Museum  in Chicago. Two days of seminars included a keynote address by documentary photographer Doug Menuez.

NPPA Flying Short Course in Photojournalism was held here in Chicago at Loyola Univeristy Center 6525 N Sheridan Rd Chicago. This two day event included  representatives from national and local newspapers including Andrew DeVigal from the New York Times, Chicago Tribune photographer Jason Wambsgans, Michael Zajakowski Photo editor for the Chicago Tribune and  and  Craig Porter from Detroit Free Press speaking about his recent Emmy award winning project. Mentoring Program with professionals from across the photo industry discussing working in visual media roles. Was held at Harrington College of Design 200 W Madison St in the evening of Oct 30th.
