NEWS FROM NATIONALJainLemos-ASPP4

—Jain Lemos, ASPP Executive Director

Our radar systems are engaging on the following announcements! First is an email we'll soon be circulating to members about the PLUS (Picture Licensing Universal System) Registry. ASPP members will be among the first to receive a free listing in their global registry of artists, rights holders, licensors, licensees, archives, and image rights information. This exciting new resource for the creative community will make it easy to identify and contact the creator and rights holder for any image, worldwide. Our members will be provided with the option to accept and activate a free listing, via a customized, member-specific link in the email (of course, you can also decline the free listing).

Boot up your calendars and get ready for these upcoming events!

Have you heard that PhotoShelter is hosting Luminance 2012 this September 12-13 in New York City? They are bringing together some of the biggest names in technology, business, and photography including Google, Facebook, Christie's, Blurb and others to discuss the future of photography today. They'll also be hosting a special photography workshop led by Joe McNally, Zack Arias, Corey Rich, and Robert Seale. ASPP Members can attend the conference using a special promo code, which will give you $25 off the registration fees! Contact me for details or look in the Member Area for more info.

Next is early bird registration for the PACA Conference in Chicago this October 19-21, and once again, ASPP will receive discounted registration fees at the sister organization rate. ASPP's Midwest Chapter is helping with the educational programing and acting as our intimate connection to all things Chicago! But hurry for the best rates, which are expiring on July 20. More information can be found in our blog post here.

We've set Tuesday, October 23, 2012 for our ASPP New York Program, "The New Copyright Economy. " Please plan to join us for a lively program with the latest information on copyright registration and regulations. ASPP Member Christopher S. Reed of the US Copyright Office will be our Keynote Speaker and Roy S. Kaufman from the Copyright Clearance Center will moderate the discussion with a panel of our peers. Stay tuned for more information and to RSVP.

We know we'll be seeing many of you at Visual Connections expo the next day, Wednesday, October 24 back at the Altman Building. This year they will be holding a Q&A session at 10am on copyright, licensing and image/footage usage trends.

Meanwhile, our five chapters have summer parties and fall workshops planned so please make a note of these as well. In the West we're trying an InstaGram, InstaMeet, InstaParty with a tour of downtown Los Angeles. The New York Chapter summer party (July 18!) was SOLD OUT! We hope everyone has a great time.
