February 2012 News from National
NEWS FROM NATIONAL
—Jain Lemos, ASPP Executive Director
Keep it long, keep it short, send it twice, send it on Wednesday at 11:00, add more photos, don't use so many photos... whatever your preference, we are trying to please as many as possible with our eNewsletter and regular monthly columns from National. There probably is a magic hour and character count for perfectly tuned association announcements. My style is sort of no style at all! I do try to find a balance and keep the tone pleasant. Meanwhile, I love your suggestions so please keep writing and calling.
This month's mantra is join, renew, join, renew! We just added a huge red join button, top left of the home page, so you can't go wrong. If you've let your membership lapse, we will email and call you, with reminders about the new options and benefits we have in place. Click here, log in and pay or simply call me and I will put something together for you that I know you will like!
Find a Pro at Last
We've been mentioning it and now it is almost time to unveil our new version of ASPP's Find a Pro! This is where your public-facing profile appears on our website. Last month, ASPP member Martha DiMeo wrote:“A woman from South Dakota found me on the ASPP site using Find a Pro and hired me to color correct and retouch 30+ photos. I was delighted! Thanks ASPP.”—Martha DiMeo, ChromaQueen.comFind a Pro has very strong SEO, but keyword searching and descriptions were limited. Find a Pro 2.0 will have expanded descriptions to 800 characters and a separate keyword field. We will be sending all members instructions about how to update listings (or opt out from the public-facing directory, if desired) very soon. Meanwhile, we thought you'd like to have a preview:
Here is how Martha's current listing appears:
This is how Martha's new Find a Pro member detail will look:
Martha will also be able to add more contact information and keywords. Each detail record will be controlled by you from within your own Member Area profile record (My Info). Stay tuned!
Promos
ASPP member Dan Suzio wrote to share the news that his latest book, Death Valley Photographer's Guide, has won the Gold Award for the best Travel Photo Guide of 2011 from the North American Travel Journalists Association. The annual competition honors the best in travel writing, photography, and promotion, and this year received more than 500 submissions from around the world. His book also ranked in the top ten California travel books on Amazon. Dan's book was also reviewed in the last issue of The Picture Professional.I mention this because Dan is a perfect example of a member who effectively uses his ASPP membership by continually sharing news about his achievements, advertising in our magazine and tapping ASPP for its networking and promotional opportunities. We hope you will do the same!
