More than 100 industry professionals turned out to celebrate the 2011 annual ASPP New York Holiday Party honoring Cathy Sachs, who received the Jane Kinne Picture Professional of the Year Award. Photographers, editors, picture buyers and industry folks were in attendance on December 7, 2011 at the WIN-Initiative headquarters. WIN-Initiative is an independent stock agency established as a source for edgy, global youth culture imagery located in SoHo.
Cathy Sachs was honored as 2011's recipient of ASPP's annual award with a warm tribute by Michael Masterson, ASPP National President. Michael, who flew in from Los Angeles, presented a beautiful, glinting, faceted glass award to Cathy and we learned that its design was selected with the aesthetic of her Alexandria, VA home in mind.
The sobering state of the picture industry and driving December rain could not deter the guests who gathered, as if around a fire, to create one of the warmest industry holiday parties of the season. A long list of agencies and organizations stepped up with generous support for the event including Corbis, Dreamstime and The Granger Collection. The attendee list was long and one guest remarked over the collective hum of conversation, “The best of the best are here.”
For most of us who spend our days strumming keyboards and staring into screens; the time we share in person at the annual party is energetically enjoyed. 2011 marked ASPP’s 45th year and this party in New York reminded us that whether you are in it to make a contact, build a network or have a glass of wine with an old friend—ASPP is a great place to connect, and if not stage the revolution, stay hip to what is happening with pictures.
