Allen Murabayashi
Allen Murabayashi is the CEO and Founder of PhotoShelter (www.photoshelter.com), an online service that provides website, archive and sales functionality to over 50,000 photographers worldwide. Allen has authored several free online marketing guides for photographers, including The Photographer’s SEO Cookbook and Google Analytics for Photographers. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Eddie Adams Workshop, widely recognized as the leading student and young professionals’ photojournalism workshop. Allen was previously a founding employee of hotjobs.com and is a graduate of Yale University.Brian Storm
Brian Storm is the founder and executive producer of MediaStorm (www.mediastorm.org), a multimedia production studio based in Brooklyn, New York. MediaStorm’s principal aim is to usher in the next generation of multimedia storytelling by publishing social documentary projects incorporating photojournalism, interactivity, animation, audio and video for distribution across multiple media. Prior to launching MediaStorm in 2005, Brian spent two years as vice president of News, Multimedia and Assignment Services for Corbis. From 1995 to 2002, he was Director of Multimedia at MSNBC.com. Brian received his master’s degree in photojournalism in 1995 from the University of Missouri.Caitlin Jewell
Caitlin Jewell is Principal and Creative Director at Silverscape. As the company’s co-founder, Caitlin works with organizations as a catalyst for change, champion of design and technology and partner in synthesizing complex paths to transition. She’s done work for Disney, Boston Beer Company, RIM, Genzyme, DRIFIRE, Lernout & Hauspie and many leading national architecture, engineering, construction, technology, consumer and financial firms. Caitlin is a member of the American Institute of Graphic Artists (AIGA) and the Society of Marketing Professional Services (SMPS). She earned her BFA in Communication Design at Massachusetts College of Art and Design.Dane Howard
Dane Howard is a writer, designer and entrepreneur, building his career by helping companies design, prototype and build products. With a background in sequential media, Dane has focused much of his work on fast, agile prototyping within a context of a product story. User-focused design and serial thinking are the emphasis of his work. He co-founded VUVOX, which was acquired in 2008 by eBay where he now helps run user experience design. Dane’s website for his children (www.chloehoward.com) spawned the book, The Future of Memories, a tool for helping people to better prepare, document and share their life stories. Dane frequently speaks on photography, design and surviving big companies.Ian Ginsberg
Ian Ginsberg is Director, Projects and Partnerships at VII, a renowned photography agency representing some of the world’s most influential photographers. At VII, Ian is charged with developing new avenues of business in an industry fraught with change and uncertainty. Prior to working in photography, he spent a decade in the music business with roles at Sony Music, their company labels Columbia and Epic Records and for a New York-based independent label. As an entrepreneur in artist management he has represented the multi-platinum-selling, four-time Grammy Award-winning recording sensation Lenny Kravitz and many other musicians.Ilise Benun
Ilise Benun is a national speaker and co-founder of Marketing Mentor (www.marketing-mentor.com) and the Creative Freelancer Conference in conjunction with HOW magazine. Jerry Monkman is a conservation photographer from Portsmouth, New Hampshire. During the last decade he has successfully collaborated with several non-profit environmental organizations on more than 100 land conservation projects in New England resulting in the protection of several hundred thousand acres of open space. With his wife Marcy, Jerry has co-authored six books, including Wild Acadia, named a top photography book of 2007 by Shutterbug magazine. In 2007, Photo District News featured Jerry as the New Hampshire choice in the article, “50 States/50 Photographers.” He is a board member of the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA).José Azel
José Azel received a BA from Cornell University in 1976 where he began shooting pictures for their annual. After completing his masters in Journalism at the University of Missouri, he joined the staff of the Miami Herald. From 1981to 1997, José freelanced as a photographer for international magazines including National Geographic, Smithsonian, Life, Time, Sports Illustrated and GEO magazines as well as shooting corporate assignments for the outdoor sports and lifestyle industry. In 1993, he co-founded Aurora and Quanta Productions (www.auroraphotos.com), a stock photography company that merges traditional photography and digital media. The technology revolution has allowed Aurora to establish itself as a company of the future, helping define the interactive, visual narrative of the digital age. Aurora’s clients and collaborations span commercial and editorial brands such as Eastern Mountain Sports, Hathaway Shirts, Kodak, The Washington Post Digital, Sports Illustrated Kids Online, MSNBC and Photo District News magazine.Lou Jones
Lou Jones has spent more than two decades perfecting the craft of commercial photography with clients such as Nike, FedEx, Major League Baseball, Peugeot, People magazine and KLM Airlines. Throughout his career, Lou has always allowed time to give equal attention to a variety of nonprofit organizations. Lou has exhibited his fine art imagery in educational venues including Harvard, Phillips Exeter Academy and Texas Tech University. His work has been seen in major shows and inclusions across the country in the Smithsonian Institution, Decordova Museum, Gallery Saintonge and the Center for Fine Art Photography. Lou has published four books and his work is represented by Lonely Planet and Zuma Press.Nancy Andrews
Nancy Andrews is the Managing Editor of Digital Media for the Detroit Free Press and led the newspaper’s photography department into video. Under her guidance, former still photographers have won four national Emmy Awards with their video productions. Since May 2009, the staff produces a weekday newscast aired on the local CBS station. Previously, Nancy was a staff photographer for The Washington Post and was recognized as White House Photographer of the Year and Newspaper Photographer of the Year. She’s published two monographs, Family: A Portrait of Gay and Lesbian America and Partial View: An Alzheimer’s Diary. Nancy has also held several solo-exhibitions including one at the Corcoran Gallery of Art.Rick Smolan
Rick Smolan is a force for exploring culture through photography. The Day in the Life photography series that he co-founded—best-selling books that captured life in America, Australia, the Soviet Union and other world locations—were an 80s cultural phenomenon. In the 1990s, Rick’s production company, Against All Odds, investigated the storytelling powers of interactive CD-ROMs with From Alice to Ocean, a narrative of a cross-Australia trek, and Passage to Vietnam, exploring that country as it opened up in the early 1990s. 24 Hours in Cyberspace took a snapshot of the booming industry in 1996 and One Digital Day in 1997 further explored our fascination with technology. The Obama Time Capsule generated more than 70 million media impressions. His latest book, with collaborator Jennifer Erwitt, Rick is the beautiful Blue Planet Run, about the drive to bring fresh drinking water to everyone on Earth. Fortune magazine described Against All Odds as, “One of the 25 Coolest Companies in America.”Townsend Dickinson
Townsend Dickinson is an executive-level manager specializing in the acquisition of photography for use in educational textbooks and related products. He is an accomplished photographer, photo editor, photo researcher and executive specializing in education orientated editorial photography. From 1991 to 2009, Townsend worked for the School Education Group at McGraw-Hill ending his career as Executive Manager of Macmillan and Glencoe’s photo teams. His photographs have been widely used in publications including Audubon, Natural History, National Geographic, Newsweek and Time magazines. Townsend is ASPP’s past New York Chapter President and National President. He is a founding member of the North American Nature Photographer Association (NANPA) and is active in several local scientific organizations. He has lectured and written articles on the business of photography, has appeared as an expert witness on copyright law and provides professional photo collection evaluations for estate tax purposes.
