  • ASPP Executive Director, Cathy Sachs to Retire, Jain Lemos Named as Successor

aspp_logoCathy Sachs, long time Executive Director of the American Society of Picture Professionals (ASPP), has told the National Board of her decision to retire at the end of this year. She has held this position for more than 15 years, having previously served on the National Board. During her tenure ASPP has become well respected in the industry as a knowledgeable intermediary for the different groups in the image business, and has been an important contributor to industry forums. The National Board has appointed Jain Lemos, who will assume the responsibility of the Executive Director position as of October 1, 2010, transitioning with Sachs through the end of the year.

“It was with decidedly mixed emotions that I came to the decision to retire,” says Sachs. “I had been concerned for some time about how I could step away from this role without hurting the association that I love and have nurtured for so many years. The decision was made easier when Jain accepted the appointment. I have long admired Jain and can wholeheartedly trust her to take over this job. She has the complete range of capabilities needed to be an excellent Executive Director for ASPP and will take this association to a whole new level. I honestly could not have hoped for anyone better.”

Jain Lemos is an accomplished photography and publishing professional with twenty years of experience producing and promoting internationally recognized images, publications and films. Her vast skills encompass directing and authoring high-profile book projects, promoting and licensing rights-managed images, running stock agencies, editing collections and representing photographers.

Michael Masterson, ASPP National President, says, “Although Cathy is irreplaceable, we are very fortunate to have Jain as her successor. Jain is an incredibly accomplished individual with deep industry knowledge, extraordinary networking and communication skills, technical savvy and a passionate commitment to expanding the membership, outreach and profile of our organization.”

“I am thrilled to be joining ASPP in this capacity and look forward to working together with the Board and members for the advancement of professional photography practices, ethical standards and educational opportunities,” said Lemos, who has been a member of the association since 1989. Lemos has previously served as ASPP’s New York Chapter President and National Education Chair. “I am deeply honored to be entrusted with the stewardship of the association and envision a new era dedicated to growing our community to international prominence.”

Lemos will establish new headquarters for the association in Southern California in the months to come.
